best-flavored hot sauces I've had |

We eat a lot of hot sauces on our food, with the defaults being Marie Sharp's or Melinda's hottest sauces as well as El Yucateco -- the red, the green or the Mayan one. We really love all those hot sauces, but the Scorpion Bay sauces are my favorites because each of them has an absolutely unique flavor, as well as a good bit of heat.
Usually the most flavorful hot sauces are a little skimpy on the fire, and the most fiery ones tend to overshadow the flavor with heat. The Scorpion Bay sauces are, to my taste, the most perfect balance of great flavor and good heat.
What's especially nice about them is that each is so different from the others, and they're all pretty different from their competitors. The most unusual one has to be the Hotacado: I'd never had an avocado-based hot sauce before -- had never even heard of one -- but this is delicious, with strong, clear avocado flavor and still a good deal of heat.
The Chocopotle sauce is also special:I tend not to care all that much for most chipotle sauces because, to my taste, the smoky flavor of the chipotle can pretty easily overshadow the other flavors in the food. This is not the case with the Scorpion Bay sauce, and I don't know if it's because of the chocolate somehow tempering the smokiness or what. But whatever the reason, you get chipotle flavor, good heat, and you can still taste the flavors of whatever it is that you are putting the sauce onto.
The De Arbol is probably the most similar to other hot sauces that you encounter in various places but, still, it has good flavor, good heat, the tomatillos give it a little bit of subtlety you don't often find in a taco sauce. Much as I like the other two Scorpion Bay sauces -- and I do -- this is probably my favorite, and I could eat it every day.
We've given cases of these sauces as Christmas gifts and no one has ever been unhappy with them. I'm glad to see them on Amazon, because at times they seemed a bit hard to track down.
All in all, great hot sauces with unbelievable flavor. If you like hot sauce, you owe it to yourself to try these.
